There are many reasons why clients and their families access mental health support. They might be experiencing overwhelming emotions, feeling unable to overcome obstacles, finding it hard to access public sector services or need some help with navigating uncertain times.
The list below covers just some of the different reasons as to why a child, adolescent or young adult might benefit from the service:
- Experiencing difficulties with emotions such as anxiety, depression or anger.
- Feeling a sense of shame, self-blame and low self-worth
- Finding it hard to go to school/college, has low attendance rates or has stopped attending completely.
- Suicidal and/or self-harming.
- Hearing voices or seeing things that others cannot see.
- Experiencing eating difficulties or restricting dietary intake.
- Suspected to be neurodivergent and/or waiting for assessment of Autism or ADHD.
- Struggling with being bullied or having previous experiences of bullying.
- Has experienced a traumatic event, a bereavement or a separation.
- Has witnessed or experienced abuse.
What 'help' might look like for our clients:
- Individual 1:1 mental health therapy (ie. counselling and psychotherapy) for children, adolescents and young adults (up to 25 years old). This can be online, in-person or a mix of both.
- Therapeutic support sessions for parents/carers who are struggling to navigate the turbulent journey of their child’s mental health difficulties.
- Consultation, advice and ongoing support for parents/carers/families struggling to access other forms of help for their child in the NHS CAMHS, GP, community paediatrics, school or other public sector services.
- Screening for neurodevelopmental conditions (i.e. ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder) and advice and/or support with referring to appropriate services for formal assessment and potential diagnosis.
- Consultation/advice/support/training on trauma-informed care and risk management for organisations supporting children in care, such as residential homes, emergency housing organisations etc.
