About Alex, Director of New Vision Nursing

Alex is a Registered Mental Health Nurse, systemic practitioner, and independent nurse consultant based in Staffordshire. With over 15 years of experience across CAMHS, adult inpatient services, and community mental health, Alex brings a unique blend of clinical insight, regulatory knowledge, and therapeutic skill to every aspect of her work.

She is the founder of New Vision Nursing Limited, through which she offers private therapy for children, adolescents, and young adults; expert witness opinion in mental health-related legal cases for Somek & Associates; and specialist training and consultancy for healthcare teams.

Alex’s approach is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in systemic thinking. She is passionate about improving the quality and safety of mental health care — whether working directly with young people and families, or supporting services to strengthen practice and culture.

Alex is known for her clarity, compassion, and clinical rigour. She is regularly instructed as a mental health expert witness, invited to speak at professional events, and trusted by healthcare organisations seeking to build safer, more relational mental health services.

She has completed accredited training in systemic family therapy (intermediate level) and maintains a small therapeutic caseload of children, young adults and families alongside her legal and educational work.

Qualifications & Roles

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (NMC Registered)
  • Systemic Practitioner (AFT-accredited training)
  • Level 5 Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy Diploma
  • Inspector for the Care Quality Commission
  • Expert witness for Somek & Associates

Alex's therapeutic style...

Alex’s approach is based on a tapestry of models and evidence-based theories that attempt to explain the roots of psychological distress in children, adolescents, and young adults. Her core profession of mental health nursing has afforded her the ability to carefully assess mental health from multiple perspectives and consider a wide range of presenting difficulties that are often complex and deeply rooted. Being a mental health nurse means that she values and nurtures the key initial stage; the therapeutic alliance and fostering a space that invites curiosity, self-awareness, self-compassion and an exploration of the inner emotional and physical world. Alex’s theapeutic work is informed by models of psychotherapy such as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Systemic Psychotherapy. She also applies theories derived from neuroscientific research with a particular interest in the neurobiological impact of disruptions to the early attachment stages between child and parent.

What to Expect...

Therapy Base in Barton-Under-Needwood

We know reaching out for support can feel like a big step — especially if you’ve had difficult experiences with services in the past. Our aim is to make things feel as calm, clear, and collaborative as possible from the start.

Here’s what you can expect when working with us::

Before Your Appointment

Once you get in touch, we’ll offer a free 20-minute call if you’d like to ask questions or get a feel for how we work.
You’ll then be offered an assessment appointment, which can take place in-person or online. We'll send you a confirmation email with everything you need to know, including:

  • Date, time, and location
  • Consent and confidentiality forms
  • What to bring (if anything)

The First Appointment (Assessment)

This is a structured but informal conversation where we explore:

  • What’s been going on recently
  • Any past experiences that might be relevant
  • Strengths, relationships, and what’s important to you
  • What kind of support might help

We don’t rush or follow a rigid script. You’ll be invited to share at your own pace, and there’s space for questions throughout. For young people, we might speak with you alone, with a parent or carer, or both — we’ll agree together what feels right.

After the Assessment

We’ll agree together on a way forward. This might include:

  • A recommendation for ongoing therapy or support
  • A written summary or formulation (if helpful)
  • Signposting to other services or options
  • Parent or family sessions

You’re never obliged to continue. You’re free to take time to reflect or explore other options.

Confidentiality

Everything discussed is treated with respect and confidentiality.
We only share information if there’s a safety concern, and we’ll always talk this through with you unless there’s an immediate risk.

For young people aged 16+, you can usually attend independently. For under-16s, we work in partnership with parents or carers in a developmentally appropriate way.

Location and Accessibility

Appointments take place at our therapy space in Barton-under-Needwood, with good parking and a waiting room available for parents.
If accessibility is a concern, we can offer online appointments or home visits in some circumstances — just let us know what you need.
