Young Adults (up to 25 years old) mental health service

In the UK, the vast majority of CAMHS services are for 0-18 year olds (although some do operate a 0-25 service). Unfortunately, there is a significant gap in accessibility of services for people who turn 18 and it can be very hard to access adult mental health services for many people. 

We believe that specialist services should be widely available to 0-25 year olds, because 18-25 years of age can be an extremely difficult time - with a lot of transitions and uncertainty. Problems like teen anxiety symptoms  and other teenage mental health issues can persist beyond 18. That's why, for those in Derby and Burton upon Trent, we offer a 0-25 year old service. 

Our Clinical Nurse Specialist has spent many years working with young adults, as well as children.

We are often contacted to support a young adult who might be:

• Experiencing difficulties with emotions such as anxiety, depression or anger. 
• Unsure of their identity.
• Suffering with a sense of low self-esteem. 
• Finding it hard to go to college, university or work or has stopped attending completely. 
• Self-harming and having suicidal thoughts. 
• Hearing voices or seeing things that others cannot see. 
• Experiencing eating difficulties or restricting intake. 
• Neurodivergent or waiting for assessment of Autism or ADHD. 
• Struggling with being bullied or previous experiences of bullying. 
• Has experienced a traumatic event, a bereavement or a separation.
• Has witnessed or experienced abuse. 
• Relationship problems, either with friends, partners or in the family. 

Your nurse specialist will undertake a detailed assessment of your psychological wellbeing and work with you to develop a care plan, based on where you want to be in life. We will then do our best to support you on the journey that you want to take for better mental health.
